Our Mission

The Mission of the Yarmouth Area Chamber of Commerce, through the unity and efforts of our membership, is to foster and achieve a healthy economic climate for all citizens of the Yarmouth Area.

Our Values

We base our mission on the belief that with a healthy economic climate the character of the community will be maintained and enhanced. 

We believe educational opportunities; cultural enrichment; and improved quality of life can best be achieved in areas where the free enterprise system is allowed to thrive. 

We understand the unique character of our community must be preserved and this is best achieved when government, business and the general citizenry work together.

Our Understanding

We acknowledge the mission of the Chamber cannot be achieved without support from a growing number of members. We understand, in order to attract and involve the business community, the Chamber must create value in the form of service to our members.

Our Role

We believe the role of the Chamber is to: Promote, advocate for, educate, assist & involve both our members and the Yarmouth community in achieving a healthy economic climate for all our citizens.

In order to achieve our mission the Chamber has adopted the following goals, programs, products, projects, and services.

Administration & Organization

This effort is managed by our executive committee and encompasses all aspects of organizational development.

    Vision

  • The Chamber’s members/investors understand the value of their investment in the Chamber
  • The Chamber is financially sound with adequate resources to achieve our mission.
  • The Chamber has a growing number of members interested in Chamber leadership
  • The Chamber has a long-range vision supported by the membership
  • The Chamber has a physical location that provides greater opportunities to serve our members
  • To acheive our vision the Chamber will:

  • Be a louder, prouder voice for business through our tone, attitude, and approach.
  • Communicate better and more frequently with our members utilizing technology
  • Focus in on fewer issues/activities.
  • Involve more members through delegation of responsibilities
  • Recognize investors individually for contribution of human and capital resources
  • Search for a new office location

Investor Services/Membership

‘The mission of the Chamber cannot be achieved without support from a growing number of members/investors. In order to attract and involve the business community, the Chamber must create value in the form of service to our members/investors.’ The Investors’ Council is charged with investor outreach, recruitment and development of benefits and services.

    Vision

  • To have all investors receive Chamber benefits that meets their needs and exceeds expectations for return on investment. (retention)
  • To attract increasing numbers of new investors because there is a firm understanding and belief in the Chamber’s work. (recruitment)
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Offer extended benefits and services (class Act, insurance, BAH)
  • Facilitate more effective interaction between members
  • Better promote our members (including referrals)
  • Create a new approach to tourism marketing and management
  • Communicate more effectively with our members and other constituencies
  • Listen more clearly to the business community
  • Share our story/work with new and non participating businesses
  • Invite all non-members to join us in our efforts
  • Offer a premier package of benefits to larger investors (Leaders by Choice)

Communications

Effective communications with our members, press, public, and governmental officials are all critical for the Chamber to achieve its mission.

    Vision

  • The Chamber’s members/investors understand the value of their investment in the Chamber
  • The Chamber’s mission is understood and supported by the membership
  • The Chamber’s mission is understood and where possible supported by the community
  • The Chamber’s interests are supported in the public process
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Identify and implement the preferred method of communication of each member
  • More consistently share with our members and the public the work we are engaged in
  • Explain the link between our mission and each Chamber position, program, project, or service
  • Create a more polished/consistent image through an upgrade of collateral (implement logo)
  • Complete website upgrades and maintain current information

Tourism Team

Tourism is the cornerstone of Yarmouth’s economy and as such the Chamber must have a professional approach to protect and responsibly grow the industry.

    Vision

  • The Town leaders and citizens understand the value of tourism to our community
  • The Chamber’s members enjoy an increasing margin of profit
  • The tourism infrastructure meets the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s visitors
  • The tourism season is extended providing greater employment opportunities
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Create a strategic plan for improved destination management and marketing
  • Engage in general and niche marketing, sharing referrals with members
  • Operate two visitor centers
  • Identify and implement methods to better utilize the Chamber’s web presence
  • Redesign the Yarmouth Guidebook and other publications
  • Identify new marketing opportunities and revenue sources to fund them
  • Issue a ‘State of the Industry’ report

Government Affairs/Public Policy

‘We understand the unique character of our community must be preserved and this is best achieved when government, business and the general citizenry work together.’ Working relationships with governmental bodies, departments and officials are critical to the effectiveness of the Chamber. The Chamber represents our members’ interests through interactions with local, county, state and federal officials.

    Vision

  • The voice of business is heard on all mission related major issues
  • The cost of, and barriers to, operating a successful business are reduced
  • Town officials and leaders understand the value of jobs (and tourism) to our local community
  • The community thrives economically and socially
  • The community is ever improving its quality of life
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Participate in all local initiatives that may effect business
  • Participate in the Cape Cod Chamber’s Public Policy Committee
  • Keep dialog with local, regional, state, and federal government officials
  • Educate our members on issues that may affect them or the community
  • Provide forums for our members and the public to learn about issues and candidates
  • Speak louder and prouder about the Chamber’s positions on behalf of the business community

Economic Development

‘We base our mission on the belief that with a healthy economic climate the character of the community will be maintained and enhanced.’  Working parallel with the Government Affairs/Public Policy, this area is focused on economic revitalization. The Town’s Yarmouth Economic Revitalization Committee, with a similar focus shares in the workload through public-private partnering.

    Vision

  • The permitting process is friendly, efficient, and effective
  • Community development projects have the support of local officials, leaders, and our members
  • The Chamber continues to act as the resource center for business development and education
  • Our members have the tools necessary to be successful and profitable
  • Businesses have the ability to attract and retain a quality workforce
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Participate and exercise leadership with appropriate local revitalization initiatives
  • Work with growing and new businesses to foster job creation
  • Educate our members through the Business Resource Center & Class Act
  • Provide forums for our members and the public to learn about relevant projects
  • Identify methods to assist employers seeking/retaining/housing employees

    Vision

  • All fundraising activities are consistent with our mission
  • To achieve our vision the Chamber will:

  • Implement cost savings utilizing technology and other unique methods
  • Operate with-in budget making periodic examinations and adjustments
  • Identify new mission fundraising opportunities
  • Assess each Chamber activity individually as to total impact on the budget
  • Create job descriptions and work plans for each event
  • Recruit a larger number of volunteers for each event
  • Redesign Leaders by Choice to encourage greater participation and office efficiency
